Android 6.0 Marshmallow is Coming to Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung has begun to roll out the latest version of Android to its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge flagships. Additional Galaxy models will be upgraded shortly. The manufacturer plans to announce the update schedule for each device as they happen, but that will depend on the carriers’ requirements and the location of the users. In addition to the new features that Google has added, Samsung has also provided additional new edge screen features. Let’s delve into them.

Doze and app standby

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge battery capacity is 2550mAh and 2600mAh respectively, so these are not the biggest batteries. It also means that they don’t have a long life and these phones have a need for charging more often, because you cannot replace the batteries. Users installing Marshmallow on their devices will be able to use the new feature called “doze,” which helps to conserve power when you have the screen off and aren’t connected to a power outlet. In addition, app standby will stop apps from draining power when they’re not being used.

Improved app permissions

Previously, applications automatically accessed parts of the device, such as the camera, location, or microphone. This angered the users who were concerned that the application developers could gain access to important data that was stored on their phones. Google has now introduced app permissions, which means that now apps will be asking for permission to use these components.

Now on tap

Press and hold the home button to get pertinent information related to whatever it is you currently have on your phone’s screen. For example, let’s say you are chatting with a friend and she says something about an important building. Google will quickly provide you with the physical address, ratings, etc.

Fingerprint app sign-in

Android users will sign into apps using their fingerprints in the same way their fellow iPhone users do.

Samsung’s special features for the edge display

The manufacturer has been able to double the space that applications can use on the display sides, now running at 550 pixels wide. There are also new applications that you can access from the edge display: news and sports applications, stock, and there’s also a new torch app, a compass, and a ruler. In adition, the users will access up to nine customizable edge panels and tweak them based on their preferences.
